Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is proud to announce the expansion of its life-saving RESCUE Program to Leake and Winston Counties, extending critical prehospital blood transfusion services to more rural communities. Initially launched in 2024 in the Mississippi Delta, the RESCUE Program equips ambulances with blood units, enabling EMS responders to administer life-saving blood transfusions in the field—especially in areas where access to trauma care is limited.
The RESCUE Program has already proven successful in Sharkey and Scott counties, and the expansion into Leake and Winston Counties is seen as an exciting step forward. Dr. Daman Darsey, CEO of Paladin Emergency Services Consulting, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re incredibly excited to bring the RESCUE Program to Leake and Winston Counties. The success we’ve already seen in other regions proves how effective this program can be. By having blood available in ambulances, EMS responders can administer crucial transfusions on-site, dramatically increasing the chances of survival for patients.”
The program’s success is supported by local and regional partners, including a sponsorship with Tadlock Stockyard, Inc., along with a contribution in memory of H. L. Goolsby, the late founder of LifeCare EMS, LLC. Christopher Swafford, CEO of MBS, shared his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the support from Tadlock Stockyard, Inc. and the donation in memory of H. L. Goolsby, we’re able to extend this vital service to more rural counties. This expansion wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of community leaders who understand the importance of improving emergency care for all Mississippians.”
The RESCUE Program is a collaborative effort between MBS, Magnolia Ambulance, Paladin Emergency Services, and community partners, ensuring that critically injured patients receive immediate access to blood transfusions before they reach the hospital. As the program continues to grow, MBS encourages the public to contribute to its success.
