Help Rebuild Mississippi’s Blood Supply
Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is making an urgent appeal for blood and platelet donors as inventory remains at dangerously low levels.
MBS needs approximately 250 blood donations and 40 platelet donations each day to adequately supply local hospital partners and help ensure lifesaving blood products are available when patients need them.
Donors with A+, A-, B+, B-, O+, and O- blood types are especially encouraged to donate, along with eligible platelet donors.
“We need to collect 40 or more platelet donations daily and 250 or more blood donations daily to adequately supply our local hospital partners,” said Kasey Dickson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Mississippi Blood Services. “Sickle cell patients, as well as cancer patients of all ages, rely on platelet and blood products to continue lifesaving treatments. Without enough donors, those treatments — along with critical surgeries — can be delayed.”

MBS is offering special donor center hours September 26–30 to give the community additional opportunities to donate and help rebuild the blood supply.
