A- red cells are always needed. A- red cells can be given to A+, A-, AB+ and AB- types. This means that A- can give to 46.1% of the population.

6.3% of the population is A-.

You can receive red cells from A- and O-.

You can give red cells to A+, A-, AB+ and AB-.

You can give platelets and plasma to people with type A-, A+, O-, and O+.
