Summer is one of the most challenging times of the year to maintain an adequate blood supply, and right now Mississippi Blood Services is facing a critical shortage of blood.
As families travel and celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, blood donations often decline while the need for lifesaving transfusions remains constant. Local hospitals continue to rely on generous volunteer donors every day for trauma patients, cancer treatments, surgeries, premature infants, and emergency care.
A, B, and O blood types are especially needed, but every donation can help save lives.
To ensure hospitals have the blood they need, Mississippi Blood Services must collect at least 250 blood products every day.
