Mississippi Blood Services Urges Blood and Platelet Donors to Give Now Ahead of Potential Severe Weather
STATEWIDE, MS — As Mississippi prepares for potential hurricane impacts and severe weather, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is issuing an urgent statewide appeal for blood and platelet donors to give NOW, before storms potentially disrupt blood collections and affect the availability of lifesaving blood products for Mississippi hospitals.
A, B AND O BLOOD TYPES AND PLATELET DONORS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED!
MBS must collect more than 250 blood products every day to help meet the needs of hospital patients throughout the state. Severe weather can cancel blood drives, interrupt collections, and make travel unsafe. But the need for blood doesn’t stop when the storm begins.
Emergencies don’t stop. Cancer treatments don’t stop. And patients who depend on lifesaving blood transfusions cannot wait.
“Mississippians know how to show up when people need them most, and our blood donors have proven that time and time again,” said Kasey Dickson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for MBS. “Now, we’re asking them to show up BEFORE the storm. We cannot wait until disaster strikes to prepare our blood supply. Every donation collected today helps us prepare for the patients who will need blood tomorrow.”
